Our Work

The CEDC is a dynamic resource center for area residents, many of whom are immigrants, and who often need a hand up to become more self-sufficient and active participants in the local economy. We support entrepreneurship, public advocacy and revitalization of the neighborhood. In order to best serve our community’s needs, we are based in the vibrant Acushnet Avenue Commercial Corridor in New Bedford, MA.

Areas of Focus

Our work aims to improve residents’ quality of life through greater economic opportunity.
To achieve this goal, we focus our work in four areas:

EconomicEconomic Development

We strengthen small, community-based businesses so that they can become a vital part of New Bedford’s local economy. We are the only local Small Business Assistance organization to provide bilingual (English and Spanish) technical assistance to help support immigrant entrepreneurs. .
.

CommunityCommunity Building

Creating greater connections within the community, helping community members to be heard on important issues, and developing more opportunities in and around the Acushnet Avenue Commercial Corridor are at the heart of what the CEDC does everyday.

ImprovingTheNeighborhoodImproving The Neighborhood

We work to improve the neighborhood, often called  “place-making”, through beautification projects, combating public blight, and by being a voice on public safety concerns.
