CEDC is excited to announce a major milestone in the development of the Capitol Resilience Hub: a $1.5 million award from MassHousing’s Neighborhood Stabilization Program. This significant investment will help advance CEDC’s transformation of the historic Capitol Theater into a community-centered hub. It will bring critical resources together under one roof, including six affordable apartments, healthcare services, legal services, and CEDC’s community services.

Construction has also advanced significantly over the past year. Major stabilization work has been completed, preserving the historic theater. New energy-efficient windows have been installed, extensive masonry restoration has strengthened the exterior, and an innovative green roof of sedum plants now crowns the building. The green roof help manage stormwater, improve energy efficiency, reduce urban heat, and further the project’s commitment to climate resilience.
The MassHousing investment, combined with growing philanthropic and public support, brings CEDC another significant step closer to realizing a vision the community has championed for years: transforming a long-vacant historic building into a thriving center for affordable housing, health services, economic opportunity, and community organizing.
